Book Review: The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa

The Forever Song (Blood of Eden, #3)The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and would highly recommend it to anyone one that loves the paranormal/vampire genre.

This really has it all. A great cast of well written characters, each with their own personalities that play off each other and help add another level to the story; you of course, have the main story line of having to stop the bad guy, but with the interactions and relationships between the characters you also have the side story of them (Allison/Zeke) truing to work through their own issues, can you be a vampire and not be a monster? I like how by this book Jackal and Kanin are like the devil and the angel sitting on Allison's shoulders. With Kanin telling her she can be good and doesn't have to be the Monster, and Jackal telling her to give in to her instincts.

I really love Juile Kagawa's writing style. Everything from the characters, the dialogue,to the setting and the action scenes is really well written. You can really put yourself there and build a clear image in your head as to what this dystopian world is like.

I thought that this was an amazing end to the series, that has put a new and unique spin on the vampire/romance genre. Highly recommended. I loved it!

Book Review: Bad Science and Bad Pharma By Ben Goldacre

Bad ScienceBad Science by Ben Goldacre
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fantastic read. This should be a compulsory reading for everyone. Bad Science is such an eye opening book into what really goes on in the academic world and the media.

I found it amazing to read about things such as spa detoxes and seeing how gullible people are by buying into it; because when it's written in black and white, the lack of true science behind it is so obvious. Although this is by no means a light read, the science and techno-babble is clearly explained and remains entertaining till the end. Definitely worth reading.

Bad Pharma: How medicine is broken, and how we can fix itBad Pharma: How medicine is broken, and how we can fix it by Ben Goldacre
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a book that everyone on the planet should read!! Shocking, infuriating, a total eye opener and a must read.

This book will make you think twice about anything you heard relating to the Drug industry. Incredibly informative and written in a way where all the complicated science stuff is explained so that anyone can understand it without looking in a dictionary every five seconds.

I love the fact that Ben Goldacre has made this knowledge available to the public. After all, the things that happen in the Pharmaceutical industry will effect us in the real world and we deserve to know what they are hiding. If you think that you will ever be given a prescription by your doctor then you must read this.

Book Review: I Think You'll Find it's a Bit More Complicated Than That by Ben Goldacre

I Think You'll Find it's a Bit More Complicated Than That I Think You'll Find it's a Bit More Complicated Than That by Ben Goldacre
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is another book that everyone really must read. Not just for entertainment purposes, but to actually learn something.

This book is a collection of Goldacre's Bad Science columns and other writing occasionally with some update not added in. This makes it perfect for dipping in and out of and reading a bit here and there when you're between books. Having lots of short column length pieces also means that you don't get bogged down in read with all the statistics and super detailed stuff. This is certainly a book that is suitable for everyone; written in away that you don't have to go and look up every other word. Funny and informative at the same time, I highly recommend all of Ben Goldacre's books. This is a must read!

Book Review: Paranoia by Joseph Finder

Paranoia Paranoia by Joseph Finder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked this up a while ago on a whim in a second hand book shop because I felt like trying something a little bit different for a change. Corporate espionage really isn't my genre, unless you can work in some supernatural, vampire, werewolf elements in; in saying that I quite enjoyed this book.

The start was a little bit slow and took some getting into, but after that it was a real page turner, and very gripping. I thought that the characters were well written and each had their own defined personalities, even the minor characters. You could really get a feel for the characters; who are the good guys, and who are the bad guys. You empathized and cared about Adam, the main character; he is written in a way that makes him likable and relatable. The descriptions of the setting was done really well. You could picture clearly in your head what each place looked like and the atmosphere of each location

The only downside of this book was that the ending felt really rushed. Almost as if there was a limit to how many words could be used in the book. You got the big reveal and then four or five pages later you reach the back cover of the book. I think that perhaps a bit more of an explanation could have been given to fully explain how got to where they were at the end (can you tell I'm trying to avoid spoilers?)

I would definitely recommend this book. A face paced enjoyable read.
